To live truthfully under given imaginary circumstances.
Meisner
Training is an interdependent series of exercises that build upon one
another. The more complex work supports a command of dramatic text.
The Meisner Technique emphasizes "doing". Acting is doing. What are
you doing on stage, on camera? What are you really doing?
The technique is incredibly intensive, and demands that each actor be
serious, committed, and passionate.
The Meisner Technique is the foundation taught here at the Neighborhood
Playhouse. Each acting teacher at the Playhouse studied directly with
Sanford Meisner, and are each incredibly gifted instructors of this
technique.
The passion and skill of each instructor here at the Playhouse led The
Cambridge Guide to Theatre (Cambridge University Press) in its article
on "Theatrical Training in the United States," to name The Neighborhood
Playhouse School of the Theatre "first among all 'professional training
programs'" in the country and describes it as "among the most
respected."
Take a look at our alumni page to see a selected
handful of great artists who have put this technique to use.
WHERE THE MEISNER TECHNIQUE WAS BORN!
We are the home of the Mesiner Technique where the Technique was born.
Sanford Meisner taught at The Playhouse for over 50 years where he developed
the process and our acting teachers all trained for many years under
Mr. Meisner himself.
