Pamela Moller Kareman, a born and bred New Yorker, has worked in the theater for many years as a director, producer, actor and educator. After two seasons directing and acting in a comedy group at The Manhattan Theater Club’s cabaret she became the artistic director of New York’s Acorn Productions. During her tenure with Acorn she produced numerous shows in New York, including an acclaimed revival of JPMiller’s The Fox (“This company deserves a welcome!” - The New York Times).
From 1997 to 2014 Ms. Kareman was the artistic director at The Schoolhouse Theater in Croton Falls, New York where she directed and produced over 40 successful productions. While at The Schoolhouse, she nurtured new playwrights and unearthed gems by renowned writers, as well as presented some of the great American classics. A number of productions directed by Ms. Kareman were moved to Off-Broadway theaters, including Ingmar Bergman’s Nora, Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, S.N. Behrman’s Biography. During her tenure as artistic director The New York Times recognized that the theater “has evolved in credibility, professionalism and stature” and called it “Westchester’s sole claim to consistent professional theater.”
In 2012, Ms. Kareman was named Executive Director of The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. She continues to direct professionally and recent off-Broadway productions include Elaine Del Valle's award-winning Brownsville Bred as well as Helen Edmundsun's critically acclaimed The Clearing both produced at 59E59 Theatres.
Ms. Kareman has a strong background in theater education. She has taught The MeisnerTechnique throughout New York City for over twenty years, most recently at The Kareman Studio at Carnegie Hall.
Forbes Magazine profiled Ms. Kareman and she was interviewed by Isaac Butler for his critically acclaimed book The Method: How the Twentieth Century Learned to Act along with a feature in American Theatre Magazine.
Currently Ms. Kareman serves on the board of directors of The Neighborhood Playhouse, Theater 808 and is a member of the drama department advisory board at LaGuardia HighSchool for the Performing Arts (the ‘Fame school’). Ms. Kareman serves on the Commission on Accreditation for the National Association of Schools of Theatre. She is also a proud member of the professional director’s union, SDC. Ms. Kareman is a graduate of The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre where she studied with Sanford Meisner.
